Description
Slow Cooker Apple Butter is a thick, velvety, naturally sweet spread made with fresh apples and warm spices, cooked low and slow for a cozy fall treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 5 lbs apples (a mix of sweet and tart, such as Fuji, Honeycrisp, or Granny Smith)
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- ¼ tsp cloves
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Peel, core, and slice the apples, then place them in a slow cooker.
- Add cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, salt, and lemon juice. Stir to coat the apples evenly.
- Cover and cook on Low for 8–10 hours or High for 4–5 hours, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and dark brown.
- Use an immersion blender (or transfer to a blender) to puree until smooth.
- Stir in vanilla extract, then cook uncovered on Low for 30–60 minutes more to thicken.
- Let cool, then store in airtight jars in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or freeze for up to 6 months.
Notes
- No added sugar: the sweetness comes from the apples.
- Stir occasionally for even cooking.
- Adjust cinnamon to taste.
