Description

Slow Cooker Apple Butter is a thick, velvety, naturally sweet spread made with fresh apples and warm spices, cooked low and slow for a cozy fall treat.


Ingredients

  • 5 lbs apples (a mix of sweet and tart, such as Fuji, Honeycrisp, or Granny Smith)
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp cloves
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples, then place them in a slow cooker.
  2. Add cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, salt, and lemon juice. Stir to coat the apples evenly.
  3. Cover and cook on Low for 8–10 hours or High for 4–5 hours, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and dark brown.
  4. Use an immersion blender (or transfer to a blender) to puree until smooth.
  5. Stir in vanilla extract, then cook uncovered on Low for 30–60 minutes more to thicken.
  6. Let cool, then store in airtight jars in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or freeze for up to 6 months.
